Students apply their skills in meaningful competition while developing confidence, responsibility, sportsmanship, and the ability to contribute to a chess community.
Competitive Play & Leadership is the advanced stage of the student pathway. Students are encouraged to use chess not only as a competitive activity, but also as an opportunity to develop leadership, communication, resilience, and responsibility.
Through competitive play, team experiences, mentoring opportunities, and reflection, students learn how to represent themselves and their communities with confidence and respect. Strong players are also encouraged to support younger students and contribute to a positive learning environment.

The starting point for learning chess: building confidence, understanding the board, and developing the habits that make learning possible.
Students move from knowing the rules to understanding how to play: making plans, recognizing patterns, and learning from their own games.
Students deepen their chess skills through more complex positions, structured practice, and regular opportunities to test their thinking against other players.
