The starting point for learning chess: building confidence, understanding the board, and developing the habits that make learning possible.
Foundation is where students begin to understand chess as a structured game of decisions, patterns, and possibilities. The focus is on creating a strong base: learning how the board works, understanding the pieces, recognizing basic patterns, and developing the confidence to play.
Students learn through a combination of guided instruction, puzzles, practice, and play. The goal is not to rush through rules, but to help children understand what they are doing and why.

Students move from knowing the rules to understanding how to play: making plans, recognizing patterns, and learning from their own games.
Students deepen their chess skills through more complex positions, structured practice, and regular opportunities to test their thinking against other players.
Students apply their skills in meaningful competition while developing confidence, responsibility, sportsmanship, and the ability to contribute to a chess community.
